Full-hand designs run from the fingertips to the wrist, so allow extra time for application. Work from the wrist towards the fingers, or the other way round, so you never rest on wet paste. This pattern suits someone who is already comfortable with basic lines, dots and petals and wants to practise even spacing.

Gulf-style, or Khaleeji, henna is popular in the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain and Oman. It is known for large, bold flowers and leaves with plenty of open space between them.

Application tips: Scrape the dried paste off instead of washing it, and keep the area away from water for the first 12 to 24 hours. The stain starts orange and darkens to reddish brown over 24 to 48 hours as it oxidises.
