Full-hand designs run from the fingertips to the wrist, so allow extra time for application. Work from the wrist towards the fingers, or the other way round, so you never rest on wet paste. This is a beginner-friendly pattern: practise the main shapes on paper first, then copy them onto skin with a fine-tipped cone.

Children's mehndi uses small, simple motifs that can be finished in a few minutes. Children's skin is more sensitive than adults', so only natural henna paste should be used.

Application tips: Scrape the dried paste off instead of washing it, and keep the area away from water for the first 12 to 24 hours. The stain starts orange and darkens to reddish brown over 24 to 48 hours as it oxidises.
